Modelled 10-year averages (ERA5 / ERA5-Land via Open-Meteo), checked against the Pyramid research station in the Khumbu, 2016-2025 (within about 1–2 °C of the station's measurements). Temperatures only: the model's rainfall is too coarse to trust in rain-shadow valleys such as Manang, so we leave it out. Mountain valleys and ridges vary more than these grid-model averages show.

Rhododendron season

April is when the rhododendron forests of the Modi Khola valley flower, turning the trail between Ghandruk, Chhomrong and Bamboo red and pink. It’s one of the most beautiful months on the trek.

What to expect

  • Mild days lower down and cold, but not severe, nights at Annapurna Base Camp.
  • Clear mornings, cloudy afternoons. Aim to reach the Sanctuary early for the best views.
  • Busy, but less than October. Teahouses near the top still fill up, so start early.
  • Snow up high. Leftover winter snow can remain above Deurali early in the month; guides check conditions.
