Spring is Nepal’s second trekking season, after autumn. The days warm up, rhododendrons flower across the middle hills, and the high trails open up after winter.
Month by month
- March: the season begins. Cold at altitude, quieter trails, early flowers.
- April: peak spring. Rhododendrons in full bloom, comfortable days, and Everest expeditions arriving at Base Camp.
- May: the warmest month before the monsoon. Hazier views and afternoon cloud, and the first pre-monsoon showers late in the month.
Spring vs autumn
Autumn (October and November) usually has clearer, sharper mountain views. Spring has flowers, warmer days and, often, slightly quieter trails. Spring haze is the main trade-off.
Which trek in spring?
- Rhododendrons: Poon Hill and Annapurna Base Camp in April.
- Expedition season at Base Camp: Everest Base Camp in April and May.
- A high pass: the Annapurna Circuit, usually open from March.
- Quiet trails: Langtang Valley.
